The Schwinn 870 is the higher-end treadmill over the Schwinn 830, offering more workout programs (26 versus 22) and better incline levels (0-15% versus 0-12%), along with several other upgrades that come with a top-of-the-range model such as a more powerful motor (3 chp versus 2.75 chp), a longer running belt (60" versus 55"  long), and a better cushioned deck (2 ply / 6 cell versus 1 ply / 4 cell cushioning).

Program variety on both the Schwinn 870 and 830 Treadmills include general training, weight control, heart-rate, intervals, quick goals, along with a Manual option where you can just get on and go.  Both treadmills even offer the ability to customize your own workouts, with 4 custom workouts on the Schwinn 870 compared to 2 custom workouts on the Schwinn 830.

The Schwinn 870 Treadmill is now also compatible with the "Explore the World" App (subscription required) that offers global courses of different lengths and in different locations - move at your own pace as it automatically adjusts to your speed.  You can also sync your data with other online fitness tracking apps like MapMyRun.  The Schwinn 830 is not compatible with the "Explore the World" App.

Both the Schwinn 870 and Schwinn 830 Treadmills come with an LCD display workout console with premium features including a sound system with acoustic chambered speakers and MP3 input, a charging USB port and data export to SchwinnConnect online fitness tracking program.

However, there is a difference in the consoles between these 2 treadmills, with the Schwinn 870 featuring a dual display (2 screens) while the Schwinn 830 features just a single display.  The Schwinn 870 also allows for additional user profiles (4 versus 2) which is handy if several people in your household want to use the treadmill regularly and keep track of their own workout data.

Workout data displayed on the treadmill screens help to keep you motivated and include stats like time, speed, distance, calories burned, heart-rate, pace, laps and more (see full details indicated in the comparison tables below).

The Schwinn 870 Treadmill now also offers Bluetooth connectivity which is a feature the Schwinn 830 does not have.

Both the Schwinn 870 and Schwinn 830 are solidly built with a host of other features, including grip and telemetry-enabled heart-rate monitoring (chest strap is included with the Schwinn 870 but not with 830), a 3-speed fan to help keep you cool as you exercise, a useful media shelf, 2 water bottle holders, SoftTrack cushioning, and 2.5” crowned rollers for smooth and quiet operation.

The electric-powered Schwinn 870 and 830 Treadmills both feature a SoftDrop folding deck system to help you safely and easily fold the deck upwards to help save space when the treadmill is not in use.  Both treadmills also feature front-mounted transport wheels for easy relocation.

There's a slight difference in overall dimensions and weight between these two Schwinn treadmills, as indicated in the comparison tables below.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with either of these Schwinn treadmills.  Both offer amazing quality at affordable prices with high-end features and up-to-date technology for home use.  For many people, the lower-priced Schwinn 830 Treadmill would be more than adequate for your needs with plenty of programs and options to keep your workouts challenging.

If you have more than 2 people in your household (up to 4) who are going to be using the treadmill on a regular basis, then the Schwinn 870 would be ideal for you.  You get the added bonus of a slightly longer stride length, extra cushioning on the deck, and additional programs and incline levels for even more of a challenge!
